Noble fir is a Pacific Northwest favorite for holiday greenery: full, blue-green and sturdy. Like all cut greenery it is natural, so its color and fullness change gradually through the season. A little care helps it stay fresh.
Why greenery dries out
Cut greenery loses most of its water through its many needles, not through the cut end, so sealing the stems does little. What helps is keeping it out of conditions that dry it quickly.
Five habits that help
- Keep it away from heat. Heaters, fireplaces, dryer vents and open flames all dry greenery fast.
- Shade helps. Strong direct sun dries greenery; a covered porch protects it from the worst of the weather.
- Check it now and then. If a storm moves a piece, set it back gently, or tell us.
- Use battery candles. Lanterns in our packages come with battery candles. Please do not swap in open flames.
- Water living trees. The potted fir trees in The Grand are living trees: keep their soil from drying out and leave them outdoors in their containers.
Indoors is different
Indoor air is warmer and drier, which is why our porch greenery stays outside and only the poinsettias come in. See our poinsettia care guide.
We leave care notes specific to your arrangement on installation day. More in Care & Booking.
